Sony reportedly will have the latest premium mobile phones using the successor to the Snapdragon 855 and 855+ chipsets, namely 865. The first evidence of such a chipset has appeared on Sony's firmware distribution server.
The chipset has an internal model number of SM8250 and it is widely believed that the chipset is Snapdragon 865.
Rumors are circulating that the chipset will launch in two variants, namely the variant with an integrated 5G modem, such as the recently launched Kirin 990, and the other version with 4G connectivity.
It makes sense for Qualcomm to offer these two models because 5G is still new, and not everyone wants to pay more to become an early adopter. Not yet known whether Sony will offer premium mobile phones with both of these options.
Sony is expected to reveal detailed information at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona next year.
