For a few moments, Microsoft showed signs of wanting to bring mobile devices with dual screens. At the event held in New York, Microsoft hardware chief Panos Panay finally announced the device with the name Neo Surface.
"We want to offer you products that feel smaller, according to your lifestyle. But also in a big way so that you are more productive, "Panay said.
Reporting from Engadget (2/10), each side of this product has a thickness of 5.6 mm and is equipped with a 9-inch LCD screen, which according to Panay is the thinnest on the market. The separate screen is connected by more than 60 microcoax cables, thinner than human hair, in order to create interaction between the two screens. When Neo is fully open, the combined screen is 13 inches.
There is the latest Surface Pen that uses a magnetic mechanism located on the back of Neo, and if you want to work faster, users can use a special additional keyboard located on the second Neo screen. It is reinforced with an Intel Lakefield processor designed specifically for multiple screen devices.
Surface Neo runs on the Windows 10X operating system, a version of Microsoft OS that seems to be known internally as Windows Lite. Using Windows 10X, Neo can smoothly reflect applications running on one screen to fill both. When users use a folding keyboard, Windows 10X is smart enough to embed all content on the main screen, while putting a "wonderbar" full of emojis.
Another important thing is that Windows 10X uses the same core technology as Xbox Hololens 2, so application development and features don't have to start from the beginning when the company starts developing it for Neo. In addition, the philosophy of "one core" also means that Surface Neo will be able to run classic Win32 applications, so as to ensure a level of compatibility can give Microsoft an edge over its competitors.
